Looking from a geographical perspective it looks like most of the states with stand your ground laws are in south. These states tend to be also associated with a high density of gun ownership. For instance Alaska has the highest gun ownership at 61.7%
ReplyDeleteAccording to Florida's 'stand your ground' laws linked above," A person who unlawfully and by force enters or attempts to enter a person's dwelling, residence, or occupied vehicle is presumed to be doing so with the intent to commit an unlawful act involving force or violence." In the case of Micheal Dunn, had Jordan actually opened his door AND tried to open Micheal Dunn's car door, his death would have most likely been protected under the law. Instead, Jordan and his friends reversed their car and retreated. Because they decided to retreat, there was no reason for Dunn to continue shooting at the car.
