University of California v. Bakke (1978)

In the University of California there was a white boy that wasn't being accepted because his grades were too high. The Supreme court ruled that a university of racial quotas in its admission process was unconstitutional, but a school use of affirmative action to accept more minority applicants was constitutional in some circumstances. The medical school of the University of California Davis reserved 16 out of 100 seats in its entering class for minorities including blacks, chicanos, asians, an American Indians. People were unhappy that they were not being accepted to the university's even when there was still seats available. If I were to be in this situation it would be very frustrating to me if I didn't get accepted someone when know that there are many seat available. They were not being accepted in to this school because maybe there grades, how they looked, skin color, they were too tall, to smart etc......

  1. Brian his grades were to low to get into that school. his grades were to low for the general admission, and his grades were high enough for the special admissions

  3. I agree with Mark his grades were very high for the schools admissions which is why they didn't want him. This was also a landmark decision by the supreme court of the United States, they confirmed affirmative action in allowing race to be a factor on college admission policies as well as accepting more minority applicants. In the medical school they had reserved 16 off 100 seats for Blacks, Chicanos, Asians, and American Indians.
