Black Panthers
Its actually called the Black Panther Party (BPP). It was originally for self-defense against the police. It was founded by Boddy Seale and Huey Newton in October 1966 in Oakland California. They were dressed in black berets and black leather jackets. They had about 2,000 members in the Black Panther Party. They were created when the assassination of Malcome X happened. The Black panthers grew a lot all the way to Chicago and New York. In 1967, founder Huey Newton killed police officer John Frey from Oakland. Newton was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in 1968 and was sentenced to two to 15 years in perison.

A lot of people were willing to participate in the movement. "Both from the police, local white mobs and the Ku Klux Klan, civil rights protesters faced the constant threat of brutal attack or even death. " Due to all this it was based on the civil rights leader Martin Luther King.
