Aaron Hernandez- Football Player turned Criminal

Aaron Hernandez grew up in a very unstable household. His parents would divorce and remarry then later both be arrested for different crimes. Hernandez faced abuse from his father and sexual abuse from classmates that he never fully addressed.

Hernandez's football success started in high school. He broke several national records and was recruited to play at the University of Florida. There he would be named an all-American and go on to be recruited in the fourth round by the New England Patriots.

He was a very productive tight end for the New England Patriots from 2010-2012. Alongside Rob Gronkowski, the pair made a formidable duo. The team however did not like Hernandez all that much. On one instance coach Bill Bellichick threatened to throw Hernandez off of the team. That however happened naturally when in the 2013 offseason, Hernandez was arrested for the murder of Odin Loyd.

Loyd was dating Hernandez's Fiancees sister and was found dead in an Industrial Park about a mile of Hernandez's house. A motive for the murder was never definitively established, but police investigated the possibility that Lloyd may have learned of Hernandez's homosexuality and Hernandez was worried that Lloyd might out him to others. Hernandez was indicted on murder charges and five gun-related charges.

It later came out the Hernandez had been involved in several other crimes. In one case he sucker-punched a bar manager rupturing their eardrum. On May 15, 2014, Hernandez was indicted on murder charges for the killings of de Abreu and Furtado,[87] with additional charges of armed assault and attempted murder associated with shots fired at the surviving occupants in the vehicle.[88] The trial began March 1, 2017.[89] The prosecution case was strongly based on testimony by Bradley, a known drug dealer who had been feuding with Hernandez since the NFL player allegedly shot him in the face and left him to die.[18] Hernandez and Bradley each claimed the other person pulled the trigger.[86]

  1. I remember when I used to watch Aaron Hernandez on the Patriots. Many can say that fame and money takes away your problems, but that is simply not true. Aaron then committed suicide in 2017. However he was found not guilty of the 2012 double murder according to the judge. However he was already serving a life sentence for a separate murder. It's extremely sad to see such talent being thrown away for personal issues. With the environment he grew up in, it was inevitable for something to happen, maybe not to this extent though. With two parents arrested, and an unstable environment around him, he was probably lost and despite his success, his environment he grew up in stuck with him.

  2. I believe that the environment that people grow up in affects them later in life. We can see this through this situation because Hernandez had a horrible childhood, which is probably why he acted similar to his parents when he was older. I think that he should have learned from his parents and turned his life around. He was already on the right track with an amazing football opportunity and he threw it all away.

  3. Also, doctors discovered that Aaron Hernandez suffered from a very severe form of CTE. His CTE was categorized as stage 3. The researches from Boston Univeristy had never seen that stage of CTE in a person under 46. Could his CTE be the reason that he turned into a criminal?

  4. In 2006 we find out that Hernandez loses his father due to an ear infection during surgery for a hernia. Claiming that he was very close with his father, this could have added to the trauma while growing up as a child. As you stated, his parents were divorced, both arrested, and he was sexually abused by his classmates. On top of that, the father he claimed to be very close with would also abuse him. He never received the parenting that would teach him right versus wrong and he would never receive the parenting that made him feel loved and appreciated growing up. On top of all this, Kyle mentioned how he suffered from a very severe form of CTE. This illustrates the various issues Hernandez experiences growing up and explains the probable cause of his irrational actions as an adult. Yes, he deserved severe punishments for his actions, though he also deserved medical treatment to see if there was any possible room for improvement.

  5. They say money can't buy happiness, and in many ways this seems to be true. Childhood trauma has a way of sticking with you, and it's really unfortunate that it seems to have ruined Hernandez's life. The combination of ADHD, familial and sexual abuse, the drug abuse, his confusion over his sexuality, and his paranoia toward the end of his life all contributed to his situation and ultimate demise. A lot of it seems like it could've been prevented if he had help or counseling earlier in life.

Also when you copy something from Wikipedia you should probably remove the bracketed citations before posting.
