For example in the case of Ethan Couch , a young boy that was intoxicated ran over a group of people that were on the side of the road. in this case, the boy was raised by parents that never said "no" to him. at a very young age, his parents would let him stay at a house alone that the parents owned, the kid would drink and have some drugs at the house, his parents were very aware of the drinking the boy had and they never gave to much attention to that. When he was in middle school his parents gave him his first truck, he was able to drive to school at this age. One day he invited a couple of friends to the house to have a small party, they were drinking and having drugs. they decided to go out in his truck, when he left his house he was speeding a lot and he lost control going at high speeds, there were people on the side of the road so when he lost control he ran over the people that where on the side the road and of course the cops came and there was going to be a trial for the young boy. the day of the sentencing came and he received no jail time only probation and the parents were never in trouble. in my opinion, I think that the parents should have had almost the full responsibility of this incident because they permitted this to happen, even the sister of the boy testified saying that the boy was always spoiled and would have whatever he wanted.

Are parents responsible for the actions of there children?
Do you think that parents should be responsible for the bad actions that their children make? in my opinion, I think that it depends, everything should be considered like, how old the kid is, what was the crime or action the kid made, things that made the kid commit the action, a background check on the kid and the relation that they have with there parents. I think all these ideas to consider.

I agree with you that the parents should be held responsible for their son's actions. I feel like they could have stopped this type of destructive behavior if they were more attentive instead of neglecting him. It was wrong that they decided to ignore that he was doing illegal stuff such as drinking and driving as a minor.
ReplyDeleteA lot of dangerous people are created from a childhood where they experienced poor role models or were raised in a negative environment. As in the Bobo doll experiment where children mimicked the violent action of adults, cases like this where parents display no responsibility whatsoever can have negative results on children. According to the psychology definition of being spoiled, to raise a child properly means strict discipline. Ethan couch was given everything he wanted, and because of that, he was terribly spoiled.
