Did OJ get what he deserved?

Although OJ Simpson was not found guilty of murder, he still faced consequences. Ron Goldman’s family filed a civil case against Simpson for the wrongful death , and was forced to pay $33.5 million in compensatory damages to the families of the victims. This judgement was reviewed in court in 2015, where the price was enlarged to $58 million. Simpson has to this day not payed the majority of this fine, but the profits for his book, If I Did It: Confessions of the Killer, go to the family of Ron Goldman as an attempt to recoup funds they are owed.

Years later, OJ found himself in another criminal situation. In September 2007, he faced a confrontation in a casino hotel room where he and five other people left with hundreds of items of sports memorabilia that were in belonging to Bruce Fromong and Alfred Beardsley. OJ claimed that these items were his and that Fromong and Beardsley had stolen them from him. When Fromong and Beardsley were led to believe that a prospective buyer was coming to look at the goods, OJ and his group came into the room with guns, demanding that he get his items back and that no one could leave until then. Simpson was convicted of all 12 charges, including robbery and kidnapping, and was sentenced to a 33-year sentence but was released on parole after only nine years.

Even though Simpson did not serve time for the crimes allegedly committed against Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, he did suffer consequences in the civil lawsuit. He still faced jail time, just for a different crime. However, I don’t believe that justice was served. There is no amount of money or jail time that will bring Nicole and Ron back to life, and OJ never had to face any jail time for the murders. Some believe that he is innocent, but there is a significant amount of evidence proving his guilt.

  1. This is a great summary of what happened after the trial. You tell about compensations given to the families OJ affected. You also go into detail about when he did serve time and what it was for. Something you could add would be where he is at this very time. Also you could explain why he never served his 33-year sentence.

  2. On what grounds was he given parole? It really seems the justice has not been served at all. Based off his crimes and past domestic abuse he is a clear threat to society. Also the fact that he wrote a book is screwed up. If the book gives money to Goldman's family shouldn't the Brown's sue as well. Or did they sue...

  3. I feel that OJ didn't learn from the Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman trial and felt that since he was an "innocent" man he could do whatever he wanted and would not feel guilty for it. It's shocking to see that he had trouble with the law and was actually found guilty on all 12 charges. I agree with you that justice was not served for Nicole and Ron and their families because even though OJ did end up going to jail, I feel that it wasn't enough for what happened to Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman.

  4. OJ did not get what he deserved. I feel like he deserved far more punishment than what was given. He killed two people. He took someone's son and his children's mother. Through it all he never seemed to care that his ex wife was murdered. There were so many things showing that he was guilty. Justice was not served. He was used to getting what he wanted and that is exactly what happened with the murder of his ex wife. He got away with it.
