Is It Abuse of Power?
Trump started his Presidency campaign in the month of June, 2015, during his campaign, this reality TV star promised to pay off Americas debt, stop illegal immigration, Islamic Terrorism, and offshoring American Jobs . To make his campaign more relevant and eye catching he started his saying "Make America Great Again," with a meaning having said "restoring a sense of dignity to the White House, and to our country in general."
As he won the presidency he had much to live up to as he promised but instead throughout the year or two that he started office he had other plans and ideas which included...
1. Abuse of his office:
While wanting to re-run again in the 2020 Presidency, Trump had some very interesting phone calls with Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine to help him gain an advantage over former Vice President Joe Biden along with his son and the rest of his family (This is also breaking the Campaign Finance laws).
2. Obstruction of Justice:
Lying with under oath, Trump is under investigation for lying to former special counsel Robert Mueller about the Russian involvement in the 2015 election. Connections with Trump and Russian officials can have surely had a huge effect on the 2015 election. (Side note- Mueller testified to congress saying that Trump did indeed have the Russians try to help Trump be elected for being president by having emails released to damage Clinton and had them organize and planned theft).
4. Violation of Constitution emolument Clauses:
In the month of July, the "U.S Circuit Court of Appeals rejected a lawsuit from Maryland and the District of Columbia that alleged Trump violation" in which he was earning money from his multiple businesses while in Office.
These are the main accounts that the Supreme Court is going to focus on during the impeachment on Trump.

I think many presidents push their powere as far as they can go. I think Trump has done it more than others, but we have had previous presidents that have abused their power more than he has. Your second point that Trump is obstructing Justice is very similar to the Watergate Scandal with President Nixon in 1973. Both are/were trying to hide controversial evidence that could/did make them look bad. In conclusion I think Trump has abused a lot of his power, but not to a greater extent than any other president in history.
ReplyDeleteIt's true that previous presidents abused their powers in the past- Trump definitely isn't a singularity in terms of this. However, it still doesn't mean that he shouldn't be impeached for it. Nixon was an example of this: he wasn't exactly impeached, but he willingly resigned from office before the House of Representatives could vote on the articles of impeachment. The same could very well happen to Trump.
