Where is Darren Wilson now?

As we are further studying the Michael Brown case, I thought it'd be interesting to research where Darren Wilson (the officer found not guilty for killing Michael Brown) is now. Even though the legal system found Wilson not guilty for the shooting, he remains guilty in the eyes of many across the nation. Since the shooting Wilson has been unable to find a job in law enforcement, and he has been living in seclusion with his wife and three children. In August 2015 Wilson did an interview about the case and talked about how he is trying to move past the case.
However, Wilson had to face a civil lawsuit from the Brown family in 2016. This trial revealed a lot of information that was not clear in his initial trial. He admits that he had previously been accused of racially profiling, and he admits that he had said the N-word when referring to African Americans. Wilson also admits that Michael Brown never tried to reach for his gun. In the Grand Jury testimony, he claimed that Brown took his gun and he has fearing for his life at that point.
Details of the settlement are not public but the Brown family has attempted to obtain $75,000 plus attorney fees for the death of their child. However, there are several inconsistencies from officer Wilson's side which can give us a hint as to what might have gone down in the civil suit.

  1. I don't find it shocking that he hasn't been able to find a job in law enforcement after the shooting. He was found not guilty for killing an innocent teenager with no weapon in sight. I find it strange that in the civil case, Wilson was starting to open up more about his interactions with Michael Brown and putting in more detail that could've possibly made him guilty in the initial trial. I think it's safe to say that Wilson had his whole life turned around when he started shooting at Michael Brown in the first place.

  3. I am not surprised that Wilson was found not guilty in the Grand Jury trial. The legal system will go to great lengths to protect their own and obvious evidence was ignored. I am more surprised that Wilson began to admit more of the truth during the civil trial. Because double jeopardy would protect Wilson from going to jail, he might have felt more inclined to tell the truth. Wilson revealing parts of the truth like the fact that Brown never reached for his gun and that he had been previously accused of racial profiling indicated that he may feel guilty for his actions and lack of punishment. I hope that the Brown family is able to attain justice for Michael Brown through the civil trial. While the details of the settlement are not public, US Federal Judge Richard Webber called the settlement, "fair and reasonable compensation."

  4. I was shocked and devastated to know that Wilson was found not guilty by the grand jury. This shows the injustice of our world and the bias towards policemen. If this information had been revealed at the time of the trial I would hope that it would be taken another direction. I believe he deserves to have his whole life changed, he did change the lives of Brown's friends and family and take away Brown's whoel future.
