Aniah Blanchard
Late on October 23, 2019, nineteen-year-old Aniah Blanchard was seen at a Chevron gas station in Auburn, Alabama - this was the last time Aniah would be seen alive. Just before midnight, Aniah's roommate received several Snapchats displaying Aniah with a young man. Aniah's Mom, Angela Harris, said that Aniah's debit card was used the night of her disappearance and her phone went dark after 11:57pm. Aniah's family reported her missing the next day. After Aniah went missing, pleas made by Aniah's stepfather, UFC heavyweight Walt Harris, made national headlines. As a result, police launched a full-scale investigation into Aniah's disappearance. Two days after Blanchard disappeared, police found Blanchard’s black 2017 Honda CR-V more than 50 miles away from Auburn in Montgomery, Alabama. The vehicle was discovered with deep dents, paint scraped off the passenger side, and Blanchard's blood-splattered inside. On November 25, 2019, police found Blanchard's body in the woods near Highway 80 in Macon county. A medical examiner confirmed the identity of the victim and the cause of death as a gunshot wound. Three men have been charged in relation to Aniah's disappearance and death. Ibraheem Yazeed, 29, and Antwain Fisher, 35, have been charged with first-degree kidnapping while David Johnson Jr. has been charged with hindering prosecution. Fisher allegedly threw out evidence and gave Yazeed a ride after Blanchard’s death. Johnson allegedly misled police about his son’s role in driving Yazeed to Florida after Blanchard's death. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for Yazeed who supposedly kidnapped Blanchard from the gas station and then fatally shot her. On December 2, 2019, County District Attorney Brandon Hughes announced a capital murder charge against Yazeed. After being arrested on a kidnapping charge, Yazeed has been held without bond since November 7, 2019. Yazeed was identified using surveillance footage from the gas station where Aniah was last seen. A witness also told police that he saw someone force Blanchard into a car and then drive away from the gas station: Yazeed matched this witness description.

For the past few weeks in California, there have been numerous accounts of teens and women going missing. There is also proof that many of these women who are being kidnapped are African American. I find it interesting that not very many news castings have been showing the amount of teens that have been missing. Without publicity for these cases, there is little to no chance of having the public help with issues like this.
