Justice for the Wrongfully Fallen

In 1955, an African American boy, named Emmett Till, was brutally beaten to death by two white men. These men murdered Emmett because they claimed that he had disrespected a white woman when he attempted to flirt with her. Years later, the woman came forward and confessed that the claims she had made about Emmett were false, and that he didn’t do anything to threaten her. It is confirmed that Emmett didn’t do anything to harm the woman, but even then his murder was not brought to justice. There wasn’t a thorough investigation conducted by the police department, therefore the men who beat Emmett to death were set free, without any consequences.

To reveal the injustice that led to their son’s death, Emmett’s parents held a public funeral for him in the hopes of gaining enough public attention to bring awareness to this issue. When the news of Emmett’s death came out to the public, people all over the U.S were shocked and Civil Rights Movement activists were further motivated to fight to bring justice to cases like this. Similarly, Black Lives Matter Activists today fight for those who’s death was not brought to justice.

  1. It's surprising to see how little things have changed. Several people have wrongfully lost their lives and justice has not been served for their killers, especially when they are in law enforcement positions. Typically there is public outrage, but not much is done to prevent the wrong from happening again especially when the killers escape justice. It doesn't give anyone with hateful motives a reason not to commit wrongful murders if there is no punishment.
