While living in Los Altos, you have most likely walked by this salon downtown. Now, weather you attended, or simply noticed it, it has recently been busted for prostitution activity in late November of 2019.
A masseuse faces criminal charges, and a business owner faces code violations after LAPD found evidence of prostitution at the Swan Beauty Salon and Spa. Police records state that there had been multiple complaints previously filed against the Salon itself before it was put under inspection. An undercover policeman had visited the salon a few days before the arrest, and was solicited for sex.
Before this incident had happened, the Swan Beauty Salon and Spa had already several violations to begin with. If a business is going to have massages included, you are required to have absolutely no locks on the doors, where as this spa did. You are also not allowed to include mirrors inside the rooms. Other issues such as required lighting, a managing-employee permit, and a massage practitioner permit were missing as well. This goes to show that people who were not permitted to massage patients were doing so.
Police chief Andy Galea said that the case was submitted to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office for prosecution, and we are still waiting for a criminal complaint to be filed.
Obviously, the city has revoked the Swan Beauty Salon and Spa's permit to operate and is now closed down. The illegal activity may have been going around for years, but we are unsure.
This is absolutely insane. This illegal activity could have been going on for years and we just didn't know. I'm glad they're being shut down because what they were doing wasn't right. Hopefully, the people involved will face the rightful consequences of their actions.
ReplyDeleteIt is shocking to find out that something as illegal as prostitution has been going on less than a mile from our high school. This reminds me of Pizzagate when Hilary Clinton's campaign manager's email was hacked and a conspiracy theory developed that high-ranking officials of the Democratic Party were part of an alleged human trafficking and child sex ring. While Pizzagate was just a conspiracy theory, the allegations against Swan Beauty Salon and Spa were proven true by the undercover cop who was solicited for sex there. Although Pizzagate was just a conspiracy theory, both Pizzagate and Swan Beauty Salon and Spa show us that businesses have the ability to hide illegal activity such as prostitution, human trafficking, and child sex rings. Swan Beauty Salon and Spa re-emphasized that illegal activity like this could be happening anywhere - even somewhere as idyllic as Los Altos.
ReplyDeleteI am so shocked that something like this could happen so close to home. I had no idea that this type of activity was happening for years and none of us realized. I've walked past this shop a lot and I would never think this "cute-appearing" shop that I've walked past multiple times was hiding prostitution. This shows that these activities are a serious issue and that it is even present in our community, even though we feel that we are protected from it.
ReplyDeleteThese are the type of things that you hear in movies but it just comes to show that you can never be to careful.Los Altos is seems to be a pretty safe town and for there to be this illegal operation fairly close to school is pretty scary. Considering the fact that there are a lot of young adults in the area.
ReplyDeleteThis is crazy. I dont spend much time downtown, but Los Altos would not be a place I would have guessed a prostitution ring was going on in. I tend get the sense that Los Altos Police don't have that much to do, but this totally changed that perspective. Maybe Robert Kraft is even involved
ReplyDeleteWhen I first read about this I thought it was a joke because it is odd to hear that something bad happened in Los Altos. I wonder if there were any major complaints that have been accumulated for a while that might've sparked the investigation.
