In the year 2019 there have seen many police shootings. In fact according to the Washington post this year there have been 829 people shot and killed by officers of the law. This is a very large number of people. 250 of these shootings were white people, and the rest were African American, Latino, and 245 were unknown races. This means the about 70 percent of police involved shootings were with people of different racial background than a white person. On top of that 789 of these shootings involved male individuals. only 39 were female and 1 was unknown. There is a stigma around more male shootings than female, since men tend to be more violent or unpredictable. Of these 829 shootings 470 of the victims were reported to have a gun on there body. Only 35 were unarmed, so does that justify the cops actions for doing what he did. We may never know, but if you were in his situation think about what you would have done.
One very interesting fact is that 739 of the officers were reported with no body camera after the shooting. Which is interesting since cops are suppose to wear body cameras for their protection, and to show that what they are doing is justified and no one would question their actions. Another interesting thing was that the state of California had the most shootings with 117 reported. On a brighter note however the amount of police shootings has dropped from 2018. In 2018 there was 992 officer involved shootings. Which is a crazy amount of shootings and should never have happened if people followed protocol and did their jobs the right way. It is refreshing to see that the number is starting to drop however, and soon hopefully that number will be even lower.

It is interesting how body cameras have not been very effective at excessive force as well as protecting officers. There is correlation between the use of body cameras and amount of police shootings. After the peak of shootings in 2014 (shown in the graph), more and more police departments began using body cams in order to reduce these deaths. But the data suggests that the amount of police shooting deaths has remained relatively the same in the past few years. As police officers can turn their body cameras on and off and they are expensive to carry, their effectiveness is hindered even more, and make them unlikely to be a good solution to police violence.
