Shooting Threat Over Ketchup

Asia Vester, 20, was at a Tennessee McDonald's drive-thru on November 25 and she ordered jelly with her meal. When she got her food, she realized that the McDonald's employee had given her ketchup instead of jelly. After a heated exchange, Vester was prompted to pull out a gun and point it directly at those working the drive-thru. However, no shots were fired and Vester drove away. On December 3, Vester was arrested for aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon since, in Tennessee, the legal age to own a gun is 21.

Asia Vester's actions demonstrate how normalized and prevalent gun violence has become. Her first reaction to not getting something as simple as jelly with her meal prompted her to threaten the life of someone working a minimum wage job at McDonald's. There were other ways for her to resolve the situation. She could have simply asked for jelly, stating that they forgot to include it or asked for her order to be replaced since it wasn't right. The fact that she went straight to pulling out a deadly weapon shows that some Americans are no longer afraid to threaten the lives of others.

  1. This example is just one of the shocking stories I've heard about guns that have been misused. There are so many people misusing guns and using them in situations where they aren't necessary. It is shocking that these stories are prevalent in media all the time and still nothing is being done about it.

  2. I agree. This is why there are 2 opinions varying about gun control and safety, I feel like this is a perfect example of how guns are misused to threaten people for whatever reason. It shows that modern day has become totally unsafe with guns being sold and no research done on the person buying the gun.

  3. This is an example of why gun control is necessary. There are people who are mentally ill or unstable which have access to weapons and it is sold to them without any caution taken by sellers. Although some states require background checks, a lot don't and people could simply go to another state to buy if they wanted. I don't think that regulating gun sales and the types of guns sold would be violating the second amendment.
