Stockton Man Claims he was Brutally Beaten by racist County Jail Guards
A Stockton man, Jacob Sevin, claims he was brutally beaten by San Joaquin County Sheriff's Officer correctional officers on the basis of his race while being booked into the County Jail early Monday morning. He also claims that he was being called racist slurs calling him a terrorist during the booking. Jacob has several broken ribs, a broken nose, still feels his bones being fractured, can barely walk, his eyes blood shut, bruises on his face and all over his body. He also claims that he was taken to a closed-off area where his hands and feet were held down by the officers using their batons and their fists in a violent attack towards him. Jacob says that they held his hands behind his back and brought his neck all the way back and beat him while his head was in that position for a long period of time. But officers say otherwise they state that Jacob was drunk and combative during the booking process and started to fight with officers. It was also argued that the officers were kicked in the chest and kicked in other parts of the body and attempted to bite the female officer.

This story sounded interesting, so I decided to look more into it. I came across a booking video released by the Sheriff’s Office featuring the events which lead to the beating of the Stockton Man. In the beginning of the video he appears to be complying with the officers. He is then taken to the holding cells which is out of the camera's viewpoint. He is beaten in the holding cell, so there's no way of knowing if that excessively used force by the police was necessary. This story is similar to the 1992 Rodney King case and it hurts knowing this type of injustice is happening today.
ReplyDeleteI saw someone on instagram that had repost his post and was speechless. It took me by surprise to know that police officers who are suppose to "serve the community" use their power to do inhumane things like this one. Just as I thought that racism was a concept that everyone should know about and how wrong it is to be racist and treat other different, the fact the officers beat him up is unbelievable. The police officers need to face charges because if they get away with this, not only the Stockton community which its residents are mainly minorities, the rest of the state and ultimately country, will be talking about this.
