I'm sure you've heard of Brexit, Britain's effort to leave the United Kingdom. Recently, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have decided to leave the royal family. Many people are blaming Meghan, saying that she forced Harry to run away to Canada with her.Throughout most of their relationship, the couple has received some serious criticism, particularly Meghan, and she has caught heat for many wrongdoings of her estranged family. Shortly before their wedding, Meghan's father suffered a heart attack and decided not to attend which stirred some drama with the media. According to sources, Meghan was devastated that her father chose to skip out on the wedding, but Prince Charles stepped in and walked her down the aisle.
This is similar to an event that occurred in 1937 when Prince Edward married Wallis Warfield Simpson. There are many commonalities between Wallis and Meghan, as they are both American divorcees. However, Edward was given a much more serious threat, that he had to choose "that woman" or to leave the throne. Ultimately, he chose his wife. This is suggestive that it was not the fault of the wives, but it is the rigorous rules and expectations of the royal family.Harry and Meghan have stated that they will be splitting their time between Canada and the U.K, and will no longer be accepting taxpayer money.

It is no shock to me that Meghan is being blamed in the media. Our world is so used to things being the same, and I think since Meghan brings so many new aspects to the royal family, like not having her father walk her down the aisle or taking her shoes off at the beach, that people believe she is responsible for what’s currently happening. I don’t think there is anything wrong Harry and Meghan deciding to spend time in Canada as well as the UK since it’s obviously a lot of pressure to be forced to live in a strict way under the media’s eye. This to me is being made into such a big deal due to the fact that we live in a world where change is really hard to be accepted.
ReplyDeleteMy mom is British, so we have been following the controversy closely. Personally, I am not annoyed with Meghan not because she represents change; I do not like her because I think she is greedy and self-centered. For example, Meghan and Harry spent $3M of taxpayer money renovating their mansion in England, only to announce that they would be living there part time. Meghan also declared that she wanted to take a break from the spotlight, yet during this “break,” she was making appearances at various charities. I don’t think it’s fair that she can pick and choose when she wants to make appearances while other members of the royal family must go to various events. Meghan married into this family–she knew it was going to be a full-time job.
