Rohm was born onNovember 28th 1887. In July 1906, he joined the German Army and was awarded a commission in March 1908 in the Royal Bavarian 10th Infantry Regiment. Rohm was adjutant to the 1st Battalion of the Royal Bavarian 10th Infantry Regiment when World War One was declared.
On September 1914, he was seriously wounded in the German advance into France. Rohm was promoted to Oberleutnant in April 1915 and in the following year suffered another serious injury at the Battle of Verdun. After this Rohm had received serious injuries to his face and chest and as a result spent the rest of World War One as a staff officer. When the war ended, Rohm had been awarded the Iron Cross First Class and had been promoted to Hauptmann as captain.
In the documentary, we learned that Hitler and Rohm had met in the early days of the German Workers Party and had been friends for years. The fact that Hitler would hear a rumor about his old friend, automatically believe it without any evidence, and then kill him is appalling. It demonstrates that no one was safe during Nazi rule, not even Hitler’s friends.
