With the arrival of this unfamiliar virus, many people have been coming up with drastic conspiracy theories as to how the virus got here and why it has become such a widespread issue.
The first suspicious evidence that the coronavirus would occur was predicted by a novel in 1981. A paragraph in the book The Eyes of Darkness, the author describes the "Wuhan-400" virus which only impacts human beings. It is also said that an outbreak of a pneumonia-like virus will occur in 2020, and went on to specifically describe eerily similar details to the coronavirus (pictured).
Another theory suggests that the virus is a bioweapon that was meant to intentionally wipe out large numbers of people. However, the most interesting and perhaps most far fetched theory surrounds celebrities and a crime ring.
Of course, these are exaggerated and ultimately theories and there are many more out there. I think the uncertainty of all of this, and having not dealt with a large virus outbreak in our lifetimes causes people to develop stories to explain how something like this could happen. What do you think of these theories? Have you heard any others? What do you think motivates people to come up with these drastic stories?

I've definitely heard tons of theories about the virus. One particular is that it came to the United States way earlier than announced. When the flu was supposedly just "really bad" in the fall, people had the symptoms of coronavirus and tested negative for flu and strep. Instead of more tests being done, a lot of people were just sent home. I wouldn't find it surprising if this theory was true. Even now when people think they are severely more sick than just the common cold, they aren't able to get tested. I think people are motivated to come up with these stories because it's hard to explain and comprehend how a virus became a pandemic and is affecting the world as hard as it is right now. It gives them comfort to believe it was supposed to happen. Like the protocols, I would guess that these theories will gain support.
