Ebola was nearly eradicated in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Until coronavirus appeared. Now that a pandemic has begun, the ability for Africa to contain their previous epidemic is weakening. Since countries must prepare for an influx in corona patients, they no longer have as many resources allocated to keeping Ebola in check. More cases are already popping up, but the full extent of the spread is still not entirely known. A resurgence in Ebola cases would be devastating, particularly once hospitals start to become overwhelmed by COVID-19. The Ebola epidemic lead to distrust between health workers and residents in the Congo, and coronavirus may only exacerbate this distrust in the government.
Still, there are some upsides to having recently battled Ebola, according to public health experts. The disease has helped prepare hospital workers with how to contain a disease through glove disposal and plastic face covers.

This is really interesting. I know that in Rwanda their history with ebola actually made them better prepared to handle the Covid pandemic. They already had hand washing stations and temperature checks at border checkpoints.
