Should Former ISIS Members Be Allowed Back Home?
In 2015, 3 girls from Britain, known as the Bethnal Green trio, took a flight to Syria to join ISIS. While still in ISIS territory, Shamima Begum, one of the 3 girls, gave birth to a baby boy. She soon went onto ask if she could return to her homeland through a televised interview with Sky News. In the interview she states that she would only take care of her children and husband and never participated in promoting the terrorist group and its propaganda. She goes onto asking for people's sympathy and saying that she was not aware of what she was getting herself into. This of course caused controversy among British citizens, many did not want her to return home because she willingly went onto join the terrorist group, many also believed that she is still a threat if she comes home.
This of course isn't the only case. There have several American citizens that have been lured into joining ISIS. Which has caused even more controversy since the 9/11 attacks which brought upon lots of stigma against Muslims and connecting all of to them terrorism, which of course is not true.
Which arises the question, Should we let those we fled the country to join ISIS return back home? As much as we want to help, how can we know these people are remorseful?

I think that we should allow people of ISIS to return back home if they show they really want to leave. ISIS is a dangerous group and it might be unsafe for them if they are suspected as not loyal. If they are citizens of another country, it's their right to be let in as long as they've been cleared of any activity relating to terrorism. ISIS has many ways to extract information and plant attacks, and if they wanted to, they would.
ReplyDeleteI don't think we should let them back in the country. They knowingly signed up for a terrorist group and if they don't want to be part of the group anymore thats great, but that doesn't mean they should be allowed to come back into their home country.
