Joel Brand

Joel Brand was born in Naud Transylvania in 1907. After Hitler came to power, he and his wife settled in Budapest and built their glove manufacturing plant. Then after the German annexation of Austria back in 1938 and the second war, he and his wife began organizing many rescue and relief ventures, they became very interested in refugee causes. Since he was a member of the Budapest Aid and rescue committee, the Vaa’aada, established in 1943, asked Brand to help people who either fled or wanted to flee Slovakia and Poland. He was in charge of smuggling the jews out of the german-occupied countries. Later, Joel Brand took part in the “ Bloods for Good” proposal along with Adolf Eichmann and SS officer Heinrich Himmler. The proposal would help save many of the Jew’s lives. They had to trade around one million Jews for goods, such as cars and whatever the SS thought would benefit them.
