Due to the shelter in place orders given to combat coronavirus, non-essential stores have been closed. Included in this category in New York are gun stores. This has led to the NRA filing a lawsuit against Governor Andrew Cuomo that alleges that his closing of the gun stores is unconstitutional because it violates people's right to bear arms and that the public health emergency isn't enough of a justification to stop people exercising that right. The NRA had also filed a lawsuit against our own Governor, Gavin Newsom, a week before for ordering similar gun store closures.
Obviously, even in times of crisis, rights must be protected and the Constitution must be maintained to prevent a precedent of people's rights being stripped. However, the question in this scenario is: is the right to bear arms the same as the right to buy arms?
