Anthony "AJ" Hunt |
Similar to Michelle Carter, Hunt had an opportunity to help Bandman, but instead he chose to make money off her death, and to give instructions on how to die. About a week ago, Hunt plead guilty to distributing the pills that lead to Bandman's death and was sentenced to 24 years. While Hunt is being held responsible for his actions, should he have faced more serious charges, such as manslaughter or even murder?

I believe that he should have served for murder along with the 24 years. I think that if there was evidence that he was the one that sold the drugs and evidence of him telling her how to kill himself, then there is evidence that he was involved in a murder or manslaughter case. Although 24 years is a long time in jail, if it weren't for him and his drugs she would have still been alive. Cases like these are so sad because people have the opportunity to stand up and help someone with depression, but use this chance to benefit themselves. There are many selfish people out there and they should be punished for the crimes that they commit or take part in.
ReplyDeleteHunt clearly had the opportunity to prevent this from happening and he did not so I think he should have faced more serious charges like manslaughter. Because he was making profit off of her buy selling her drugs, it seems like that was all he cared about and didn't actually care what her purpose would be with the oxycodone. It seems like people just don't care enough to help others these days even when they have the opportunity to because it isn't the easy thing to do. It would be one thing if he sold Bandman the drugs without knowing her intentions, but because he knew she was trying to kill herself with them he should be held responsible for his actions
ReplyDeleteI can see the similarities between this and the Michelle Carter case. Hunt knew what he was doing when he sold her those pills, but didn't do anything to stop him. I believe he should get way more than 24 years for the death of Bandman. Though he did not physically kill her, he was the cause for her death just like Michelle Carter was the cause of Conrad Roys death. I agree that he could've helped her, but decided to take the money and run. There are so many cases that involve all these similarities. A case relating to this is the Inyoung You case. She was the reason for killing her boyfriend even though she knew he was depressed, yet did nothing to help support him. In all these cases, both people knew what their intentions were, but not one did anything to stop it which I find to be so sad and hard to think about.
ReplyDeleteWhile there are a lot of similarities between this case and the Michelle Carter case, the severity of Hunt's crime was far worse. While Michelle Carter encouraged Conrad to kill himself, she told him how to but provided no means of doing so. She didn't buy the materials, she left Conrad to do it himself. He was guilty of distributing oxycodone and instructing Rachel specifically on how to use it. Both Conrad Roy and Michelle Carter were troubled, suicidal teenagers, and Bandman and Hunt being adults means that Hunt should have taken more responsibility for distributing and providing the means for suicide.
