In our society, high school students are crippling under the pressure of getting into a good college, achieving good grades, performing well in sports, anxiety and depression. These extra pressures can cause students to reevaluate their life and wonder if life is truly worth living.
In I love you, Now Die, Michelle Carter should have done everything she could to help save her boyfriend Conrad. Although her intentions were valid, she should have approached it in a very different way. Conrad was trying to figure out life and death, and he was lost. Instead of urging him to kill himself, Michelle should have gotten him help and supported him and told him life will get better. But on the other hand, Michelle isn't 100% to blame because Conrad had already previously attempted to kill himself. But since she encouraged him, she is partly to blame.
Teen suicide claims so many prosperous lives every year, and it's incredibly sad because these kids feel like they're alone in this cruel world, but in fact they are loved and cherished. As a community, we should be helping these kids change their mindset and tell them to believe in the future and hope for the better. The crippling pressure that society puts on teenagers is ridiculous, and hopefully in the future, that will change.

It breaks my heart thinking that some teens in this world feel as if not existing anymore is BETTER than living. What I think about teens with depression and suicidal thoughts is that this stressful time of highschool, pressure with college and achievement, is temporary. Although depression may not be temporary, there are still a large portion of people who have attempted suicide, and have confirmed that with being unsuccessful they are so happy they did not follow through with it. I think there are plenty of source on and around campus that should be utilized a lot more. There is also a feeling around the friends of someone who is suicidal, is that they do not want to upset the depressed friend or "get others involved". I personally think that is not at all an acceptable reason. I think everyone should try to help each other weather or not there may be consequences involved.
ReplyDeleteI think the first step to prevent teen suicides is to bring awareness to the issue as a whole. Living in the bay area, we are surrounded by stressed out teens. Kids are swamped with pressure around school, college, sports, and much more. Sometimes this pressure can push a kid past the tipping point and unfortunately in some cases causing them to commit suicide. And at the same time parents and other adults in teens' lives aren't aware of the scale of this issue. I believe that if people become more aware, they can step in and help teens, overloaded with this pressure, and prevent teen suicide.
