Just like the Michelle Carter and Conrad Roy's case, they were both clearly toxic for each other and though Urtula had no mental illness and was going to major in Biology from Boston College. The problem with this specific case, though it mirrors Carter's case, You had complete control over his death whereas Roy listened to Carter's advice to buy the generator, but Carter demanded him to stay in his car.
You manipulated Urtula through text messages by threatening him. It is clear that You had the power in the relationship. Her abuse and demands increased more frequently throughout their 18 month relationship. Some examples of messages she would send to Urtula would be like, "go die, your family and the world would be better off without you." Just like how Michelle Carter had her school classmates testify, You's family members and classmates witnessed the abuse.
Two hours before Urtula's graduation, You tracked Urtula's location was was physically present when he jumped from a parking garage. I personally think this is cruel and disgusting to think that someone that you have been seeing was capable to hurt you. From pictures they looked like a happy couple and would've never thought that she would be capable of doing is.
What I find shocking about this case is that Alexander and Inyoung had a physical
ReplyDeletereal-life relationship whereas Michelle Carter and Conrad Roy's relationship was all online with the exception of them meeting up approximately three times. Inyoung is definitely at fault for Alexander's death because she kept on abusing him and she knew what she was doing, but did nothing to stop it. Though there are a lot of differences between both cases, the similarities between both cases are uncanny.
This is a really interesting case. It is different from the Michelle Carter case because she actually watched him jump and she knew he was graduating the same day. This is a much more concrete argument than Michelle and Conrad's because Inyoung is an obvious threat to society if it was so easy for her to convince and watch Alexander Urtula commit suicide. While Michelle Carter had some seriously questionable actions, Inyoung You took this to an even higher level and she should certainly be put on trial and jailed for her actions.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised to read that there was a similar case to the Carter case. It is shocking that something like this would happen, even with someone who seemed mentally stable. I can't believe she could be physically present watching her boyfriend die and not do anything. These cases are so similar although I agree with Courtney and I think You took Carter's actions to a higher level and she should certainly have been put on trial and jailed for her actions.
