Botham Shem Jean, a black man, was killed on Septemeber 6th in his own apartment by a Dallas police officer. Many questions were raised about what exactly happened inside Jean's apartment that night. Amber Guyer was a four year veteran of the Dallas Police Department, she claims that the shooting was an accident. She claims that when she arrived home she didn't realize that she had gotten out on the wrong floor of the building and the apartment she went in was in fact not hers. After entering the apartment she described seeing a "large silhouette" and thought that she was being robbed. For that reason she shot, hitting Jean in the chest. But soon realized it was a mistake when she turned on the lights. After the shooting many questions were brought up. The details of the shooting were hard to believe and left many unanswered questions.

Cases like these are extremely saddening because someone should feel safe inside their own home, they shouldn't have to worry about being shot in killed. In this particular case Guyer is completely in the wrong. Not only did she not check the apartment first, but she didn't seem to say who she was, she shot first and asked questions later. I really hope that Jean's family gets justice for his death and Guyer faces prison time.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how it was an accident if the officers go through an intensive training. I also found it weird why she shot, was she scared? I hope that the justice system played(s) fair in this trial and not give the officer the advantage.
