Gabrielle Union is an American actress, voice artist, activist, and author. Union has been a judge on the Show America's Got Talent on its fourteenth season but has been recently fired after he had spoken about racism that was occurring of camera. Her co-star judge Julianne Hough was also sacked from the show after one season, and currently supporting Gabrielle through this investigation. She has also added details in which the producers had commented on both of the costar's outfits, their bodies, and their appearance.
NBC News had reported Wednesday that members of Union's team were scheduled to meet with the representatives from NBC as the network, through counsel, investigates allegations of a "toxic" and "racially insensitive" work environment. The actress tweeted that she had "a lengthy 5-hour, and what I thought to be, productive meeting yesterday. I was able to, again, express my unfiltered truth. I led with my transparency and my desire and hope for real change."
Variety also published a report alleging Union's contract was not picked up after urging the show's producers to report an incident involving a racist joke and after she was told her hairstyles on the show were "too black".
This makes at least my viewing of America's Got Talent completely different. There has been plenty of people to point out that the white to black judges ratio on the show are completely disproportional. I will no longer support or watch this show because of the discrimination they have on women and especially their black women.
When I heard about the news that she was cut off I was very surprised. I was not a big fan of the show, but did watch some and I enjoyed watching Gabrielle judge. It was so uncalled for on the shows end to completely cut her off since she had no idea why. I was disgusted to read how her hairstyles on the show were "too black" and to think that as a society we have come a long way with race and to think like we are sill in the past is heartbreaking.
