"Hate Crime Cancels Christmas Parade!"

Published on December 6, 2019

Confederate Groups have made threats of violence to a North Carolina annual Christmas parade recently in the Town of Wake Forest. After 70 years of celebrating this beloved event, it comes with great sadness that it will no longer continue this year. According to an interview published by CBS News, Mayor Vivian Jones states, "Based on information we have received in recent days, this year's event has the potential to be one marked not by marching bands and Santa Claus, but instead by protests between clashing groups outside Wake Forest, with innocent bystanders caught in the middle." This shows that thanks to ignorant people who feel the need to protest on the most celebrated Holiday of the year, ruin the fun and memorable moments for the people, especially the children. I'm sure that we can all agree that everyone has the right to express themselves and have an opinion. However, there is a time and a place where it is appropriate to express your thoughts without causing harm to others.

  1. I think that it is sad that threats of violence are being done during the holidays, especially to a parade where thousands of peole go with their families. It unfortunate that we live in a society where peole have to be careful of things like these.

  2. I think the Mayor gave the right statement regarding the group's first amendment rights. There is a time and place to express thoughts and feelings and it is disappointing to learn that they have made violent threats at an event that seems to hold a part of North Carolina's history. I wonder if any legal action has been taken against the group.
