Since the kids were so young, there were instant speculations. District Attorney, John Adams, expresses his confusion stating that as far as he knows 8-year-olds, generally, do not commit suicide. In addition to this, it would be unlikely that the boy would decide to kill his 4-year-old sister despite his mother's claims.
Knowing that there were inconsistencies and unanswered questions, such as the fact that there was no evidence the boy had been bullied, in fact, he was supposedly a happy child, so they began investigating the mother. As it turns out, Lisa Snyder had purchased the dog lead the children were hanging from on September 22, the day before the bodies were found. In addition, Snyder had searched episodes of "I Almost Got Away With It" (a crime documentary series) and methods of hanging also on September 22. Snyder was also said to have stated she did not care about her kids anymore and had previous instances where Youth and Child Services had to come to her home.
Through internet searches, purchases, inconsistencies, and suspicious statements, Lisa Snyder was charged with the first-degree murder of her two children and endangering their welfare.

This is a very disturbing case for many reasons. The fact that their mom was the one who killed them and blamed it on the kids shows how little she really cared about her kids. I feel that she wanted to take their welfare benefits in order to take help support her and without having her kids stuck in the middle. I completely agree with the charges that were put on her because she knew that she needed to kill them to help her "suicidal" son who was actually known to be very happy for her own benefits.
