Once he was released OJ has had one altercation in a steakhouse where he and the only person only exchanged words with each other, which caused him to be banned from ever coming back, this happened a month after he was released. Since then OJ has managed to stay out of trouble.
He now lives a retired lifestyle where he goes and plays golf with his friends mostly every day, and spends time with his family and friend when they come to visit him or when he goes to visit them in Florida and Louisiana. In June of 2019, OJ made a Twitter account promised the media in a video that he was going to tell opinion on different topics that come up in the media and clear up any rumors about himself that people have said over the years that are not true.
It's interesting to see how OJ changed after being released from prison. It was surprising to see how he didn't want all of the fame and attention back because of how he was before being sent to prison. At least he is staying out of trouble and isn't instigating any unneeded attention or drama on himself.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that OJ ultimately went to jail for the robbery-kidnapping instead of the double homicide shows how our justice system works in weird ways. Although the double jeopardy rule in the 5th amendment is part of our constitutional rights, it created injustice for the Brown and Goldman families. After the robbery-kidnapping, OJ was ultimately sentenced to 33 years in prison but was released after 9 years when he became eligible for parole. OJ being sentenced for the robbery kidnapping instead of the double homicide reminds me of Lionel Tate. Lionel Tate killed a 6 year old girl, Tiffany, while imitating wrestling moves he had seen on TV. After being charged with first degree murder and sentenced to life imprisonment, Tate's case was reconsidered and he was able to accept a plea deal. Lionel ultimately violated his probation by robbing a pizza delivery guy at gunpoint. In some cases, like OJ and Lionel's, people don't take the second chance they are given after escaping from the justice system. Hopefully OJ has finally learned his lesson and will lead a peaceful retired life.
ReplyDeleteIt is important to note that it took OJ years to settle down. After just barely missing a serious murder conviction, it is surprising that he chose to take his chances with the law yet again by robbing someone in a hotel. The judge who sentenced him for the armed robbery charged him for every possible conviction probably with the double murder in mind, using this case as a punishment for getting away with murder. It is also surprising that he got into another altercation shortly after getting released from prison as if he hadn't learned his lesson yet. I think his choice to stay out of the spotlight shows that he finally learned his lesson, and got over his desire for attention.
ReplyDeleteThough he did not go to jail for the murders, I think being in jail for 33 years helped him. It is clear that we all believe he should've been found guilty for the murders, spending 33 years probably felt like he was found guilty. I think the time he was in jail it helped him reflect upon his actions and the type of person we was in his prime years.
