Treblinka was a Nazi German Concentration camp and extermination camp, it was located near the village of Treblinka. Treblinka was known as one of the most efficient killing fields of the Nazi regime. Jews were brought there thinking that they were being resettled. There were massive deportations from Warsaw, more than 250,000 Jews were deported to Treblinka. When they arrived there the victims were separated by sex, stripped from their clothing and their valuables, taken into buildings containing "bathhouses". But for those that came to the camp sick, they were taken to the "hospital" it had a Red Cross flag outside. But this wasn't an actual hospital where they were gonna be seen by a doctor instead inside there was a large ditch where they were shot in the head and killed.
After many years of killing the Treblinka killing camp was closed. Several Treblinka officers faced trial in West Germany. The trail lasted 10 months and concluding in August 1965, 10 defendants were tried, including deputy camp commander Kurt Franz, who was sentenced to life imprisonment.

It's hard to imagine what went through the minds of the people in Treblinka as they walked into a "bathhouse," but then realized they were all getting gassed instead. It's also hard to understand how the people running the camp could be so evil or be able to go along with it. I can't imagine how someone could shoot sick people who think they're going to the hospital. Even though we've learned about the mentality of the Nazis and how "regular" people stood by and allowed the atrocities, it still seems evil at this level.
ReplyDeleteIt’s horrible how the Nazi propaganda perverted people’s good qualities, like their discipline, education, and tenacity. These qualities were then used to efficiently exterminate the Jews and other sub-humans. For example, educated people purposefully designed Treblinka to look like a rest stop and disinfection station along the railway, fit with train timetables and a waiting room. The gas chambers were skillfully hidden by high walls and trees and could only be accessed by a narrow path that kept the Jews moving towards their deaths with no way to turn back. This facade and the fact that the Jews were told they were being resettled helped keep them calm so the Nazis could efficiently kill them.
