How the Coronavirus is Affecting our Lives
As many of us know, the Coronavirus pandemic is continuing to get worse. Slowly more and more events are getting cancelled and the idea of school getting cancelled is up to debate. Although many of us love the idea of having a few weeks off of school, we have to think about the bigger picture. We have to do what is ethically right for our community.
Students are so busy craving the idea of no school, that we aren't think about anyone else. If we cancel school, teachers and staff won't have a steady source of income. Because coming to school is their job, time off means more stress about what the future will look like.
For students, cancelling school may sound like fun, but we will still have online work to do, so it won't be a complete vacation. Because they have already cancelled spring sports, people are becoming more worried about what may happen with other events. If this pandemic continues to get worse, we might have to cancel other big events such as prom and even graduation. Of course, when we view the idea of a typical senior experience, we imagine dressing up for prom and walking across the stage. Maybe taking a few weeks off now, will better us for the future. However, I don't believe it is necessary unless we have a case at our school.
The safety of our community is important, but how much safety is too much? What is considered overboard?

I disagree. I think it is good that they cancelled school before we had a confirmed case because people can still have the virus and be contagious without showing any symptoms. For example, if we did have a student who had the virus but didn’t know and came to school, all their friends, classmates, and desks they sat in may be infected. Then all of those people’s friends and family members may be infected. Cancelling school prevents this chain reaction from happening and flattens the curve for COVID-19. This means that even if the total number of people who get sick is the same, the number of people sick at any one time is below the health care system capacity. This prolongs the spread of the virus, but at least the hospitals are able to help those who need it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Courtney because there could be someone at the school with the virus but doesn't even know it because they are not getting any symptoms get. Then more kids would be affected and when they all go home they can pass it to their loved ones and that cycle would never end if we were to still be in school. Hopefully this virus gets controlled soon so that we can go back to school and still have prom, senior picnic, grad night, and Graduation because if we don't have these it will get me mad due to that fact that we are still doing all this hard work for what? To get our diploma online..... I want my parents to see me graduate and see me walk the stage for all the hard work I did my past 4 years.
