As a result of many women working, less were having babies so in 1936 there was rule that all male SS members were supposed to have up to four children whether it was within their marriage or not because the SS leaders thought if more men were having babies, it gave the women no choice but to stay home and be moms.
By 1942 a group of students came together to start the White Rose Movement, by forming this group it meant that they were a non-violent group of teens that didn’t agree with the Nazi regime. One of the leader's sisters Sophie Scholl was also apart of the movement, she was unfortunately was executed because she was an active member that fought for women's rights.
I think this is an important role in women's history. When I think about the Holocaust I tend to overlook the role of women during this time because of the intense discrimination against Jews. However, The fact that 13 million women became active members of Nazi Party is very impressive, however the Nazi party was not the nicest and sweet members of Germany. They killed and tortured people, which I think should be taken into account.
ReplyDeleteI think it's strange that the government made it illegal for women to work these positions even though their work was necessary after many men were taking part in the war. I think it is also strange that they were executing women who stood up for themselves when they were trying to have all men have four children.
