College decisions

Making a decision of wearing you will be spending the next four years of your life is a very big decision one that can affect where you career begins. With the stay in place quarantine, it has been hard to not only choose a college but even just researching how life is like on campus. In a normal case students are able to visit the school during school hours and get an understanding for how the school feels. But this year has been the only year ever where nobody is allowed to do so. This has brought a chaos to the admissions process as students are asking for more time to decide where they will be going to college. Although I personally have a few top colleges in mind, I have very little knowledge about the everyday campus lifestyle. I have found that the most useful way to learn about the school is to reach out to an underclassmen and an upperclassmen at the respected school. This gives students an idea on how it feels when you first arrive at the school, and how the school has benefitted the students long term. As we get closer to the decision deadline, I wonder how college will provide access and information to the students.

  1. I think that the fact that prospective students cannot visit campus causes challenges for both the students and the universities. Schools have been scrambling to arrange virtual open house events, virtual tours, virtual question/answer sessions and much more. Ultimately, it will be much more difficult for schools to maintain their enrollment yield, and for students to understand their options.

  2. I agree with you Eric, reaching out to both underclassmen and upperclassmen really helped me get a sense of what being on campus is like during the regular school day as well as allowing me to make an informed decision of where I am going to attend next year.
