With doctors in the UK taking care of patients experiencing the impacts of the coronavirus day in and day out, it is necessary they have the proper equipment and a large supply of the equipment in order to provide assistance in this pandemic without being infected and harmed by those infected. With a lack in equipment such as gowns and eye protection, the likelihood of being infected increases substantially with the UK government providing little support despite their promises to respond to the issue and fix this problem. Although there is some improvement in equipment available, the amount of improvement still does not compare to the needs of these doctors in such circumstances.
Dr. Chaand Nagpaul, the BMA's council chair, stated, "The government says that 1 billion items will soon have been shipped and while there have been signs of improvement, our research clearly shows that equipment is not reaching all doctors working on the front line". To provide additional information about the UK's lack in support for these doctors, data was released on Monday indicating a third of the NHS's workers tested positive for coronavirus when tested. This number will only increase if these workers do not receive the equipment needed.

I think we can all agree that health care workers around the world need the proper equipment if we want them to keep fighting COVID-19. In the beginning they were not getting the proper support they needed, and I still don't think they are, but governments worldwide are starting to slowly resupply hospitals and allow healthcare workers to safely fight the virus.
ReplyDeleteI think that countries need to rapidly increase the supply of medical supplies by converting manufacturing plants of non essential products to manufacturing medical supplies. If this happens there will a be surplus of supplies around the world.
