While Trump has said that he believes the NFL season will start on time in August, Gavin Newsom has said he is skeptical that the NFL season will start on time in California. So what will that mean for the NFL if other teams are cleared to play in their states, but the California teams can't?
Well, it depends on where we are in the pandemic.
If we are still on full lockdown, Governor Newsom could completely stop any games from happening in California. This could force the NFL to redo the California teams' schedules to all be away in states that are allowed to play or this could force the whole NFL to just postpone their season.
If, however, restrictions have loosened and only large gatherings are prohibited, the games may still be played in the stadium, but without fans, as the NBA originally planned to do. Or, if health experts say it is safe and the pandemic is over, the NFL season could start on time as Trump plans without expert approval.

ReplyDeleteI believe that the commissioner will have to really think about this decision and evaluate the situation in the next few months. They have already moved the 2020 draft online and I wouldn't be surprised if the season is delayed because there is a chance they won't be able to practice until August (when preseason starts)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Tripp, and I definitely think we will need to see how this looks in 2 months to judge. Even with the NBA, they are re-evaluating on May 1st, but Canada (which contains the Toronto NBA team) said they would not be hosting events until at least June 30th. It would be very interesting if certain teams are approved of playing and others aren't. This is just not a situation that we're used to thinking about :/
ReplyDeleteI also agree with Tripp, but I think this is a good thing they canceling the sport events so we wont have to lose anymore stars or legends.
